World-Renowned Bioelectronic Mechanisms Expert Rod O’Connor Joins Panaxium as Scientific Advisor

Bioelectronic medicine company developing comprehensive neuromodulation therapies to heal the damaged human brain.

Aix-en-Provence, FRANCE, December 10, 2019 — French bioelectronic medicine company Panaxium has announced that Dr. Rod O’Connor, PhD, professor at École des Mines de Saint-Étienne, has joined the company as a Scientific Advisor. Dr. O’Connor’s research is focused on Electro-oncology uses of bioelectronic medicine.

Bioelectronic medicine is an emerging scientific field that aims to tackle many debilitating and degenerative medical conditions and injuries by leveraging the newest bioelectronics and building imperceptible devices at the microscale dimensions of individual cells. There is significant potential to treat diseases of the human brain, such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, as well spinal cord injuries.

Dr. O’Connor is the Department Head and Professor of Neurotechnology and Bioelectronics at École des Mines de Saint-Étienne. His current research focuses in oncoelectronics and developing new approaches to cancer therapeutics combining bioelectronics and bioelectrics.

Dr. Brad Schmidt, CEO of Panaxium, says of O’Connor’s appointment, “The promise of Bioelectronic Medicine lies in a clear understanding of the mechanisms of action between our devices – and the neurons themselves. We welcome Professor O’Connor to Panaxium, as he is a leading expert in studying the mechanisms and behavior of cells under the influence of up-close stimulation.”
